SALEM - Jesse Ventura spoke out against the media and the U.S. invasion of Iraq Thursday night at the O'Keefe Complex. He went on to announce to a receptive Salem State College Series crowd that he is considering a run for the presidency in 2008.
"One reason I would not run would be out of consideration of my family," said the former pro wrestler and governor of Minnesota. "I would not want to subject members of my family to the media jackals in this country."
Ventura accused the media of creating the news rather than reporting it. He also spoke out strongly against the U.S. invasion of Iraq. "Why are we attacking a country that had nothing to do with 911? When we were attacked by the Japanese at the start of World War II, we didn't fight back against the Koreans. We fought back against the Japanese."
Ventura addressed many issues, from gay marriage to campaign finance reform to taxes. As a member of the Reform Party, Ventura said the two major political parties are being manipulated by special interests.
