Salem, Mass. - Disability law will be the topic of Salem State's College's 22nd annual Human Rights Convocation. Hosted by the School of Social Work, this year's convocation will be held Monday, April 5, 11 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. in Veteran's Hall, located in the Ellison Campus Center.
Stanley Eichner, director of litigation and managing attorney at the Disability Law Center in Boston, will address the convocation on "The Ever Changing World of Disability Law." He will provide an overview of the history of disability law and discuss current Massachusetts state law as it applies to disability access.
Eichner has been a civil rights attorney for almost 30 years. He was the lead counsel in the Law Center's agreement with area banks, which provided that those banks would install at least one talking ATM at each of their locations, improve their web sites and ensure that all written materials were accessible to customers who are blind or have visual impairments. He has litigated cases in most areas of civil rights law with a particular focus on protecting the rights of persons with disabilities, students and workers. A frequent lecturer on disability rights, Eichner is co-editor of The Legal Rights of Individuals with Disabilities.
The program is free and open to the public. This event is co-sponsored by the Office of the President, Office of the Vice President Academic Affairs and the Office for Students with Disabilities. For more information contact Robert McAndrews at 978-542-6815 or Lisa Bibeau at 978-542-6776.
