Salem State honors Revere resident as Teacher of the Year

SALEM, Mass. - The Northeast Global Education Center at Salem State College has named Mary Ellen Pedro, a special needs teacher at the Saltonstall School in Salem, as its Teacher of the Year.
Pedro, a resident of Revere, is also a First Steps tutor and teacher leader in the Globe program. She has been a National Geographic Teacher Consultant since 1992.
Pedro accepted the honor during a ceremony Wednesday, June 11 at the college.
Prior to arriving at the Saltonstall School in 1999, Pedro spent the previous eight years teaching third grade at the Bentley School, also in Salem. She was a resource room teacher at the Witchcraft Heights School from 1985 to 1991 and a remedial reading specialist from 1972 to 1985.
Pedro earned a masters degree in reading specialization from Suffolk University in 1972 and a CAES degree from Boston College in 1975.
