| SALEM, Mass. - June Kalman, of Swampscott, an adjunct professor with the School of Social Work at Salem State College, is one of just five social work field instructors from across the country who will receive the national "Heart of Social Work Award" from the Council on Social Work Education. The council will honor Kalman at a ceremony in Atlanta on Saturday, March 1. Affiliated with the School of Social Work at Salem State College for the past 11 years, Kalman met the following criteria for the award: excellence in education instruction; mastery in teaching skills; a strong partnership with field education efforts and the School of Social Work; and professional efforts that benefit the school and the community. In addition to her role as an educator at Salem State, Kalman is the senior clinician at the North Shore Education Consortium in Danvers, a public school for children with severe emotional disorders from 16 districts and various socioeconomic classes. According to Mary Byrne, a professor in the School of Social Work at Salem State College, "As a field coordinator, I have observed various faculty who have worked with June. Each raves about her abiltity to adjust her teaching to the skill level and learning style of each student." For more information, contact Byrne at (978) 542-6638. |
