SALEM – Television and movie star Goldie Hawn told a Salem State College Series crowd of over 1,800 at the O'Keefe Center last night that being happy has always been her goal in life.

Judging by the warm reception she received, the crowd was happy too. Hawn spoke about balancing a competitive acting career with being a proud mother. “The one thing you can't fail at is parenting,” she said.

Hawn also revealed that she suffered from anxiety before discovering the benefits of meditation.

She then opened the door to a question-and-answer session allowing members of the audience, most of them big fans, to ask about her relationship with Kurt Russell, marriage, her movies and her children. One member of the audience, a theater student at Salem State, told Hawn that he studied her “subtle” expressions in movies and asked how she was able to smile so naturally in front of the camera. “You have to be happy inside,” she said.

Prior to her talk, Hawn spoke to a gathering of 20 Salem State theater students.

The next Series speaker will be journalist/novelist Dominick Dunne on March 25.
