SALEM, Mass. - For demonstrating a strong commitment to their chosen fields of study and for maintaining high quality in their academic work, Lori Cunningham and Lindsay O'Connell, both of Beverly, have been named the first recipients of the Frederick A. Meier Science Award at Salem State College.

Cunningham, a chemistry major with a concentration in biochemistry, has a 3.64 GPA entering her senior year in the fall. O'Connell, a biology major with a concentration in nuclear medicine, will enter her senior year with a 3.96 GPA. Both Cunningham and O'Connell will apply the $750 award to their tuition.

The awards are presented in the spirit of the late Dr. Meier who played a leading role in building Salem State College and its science departments.
