SALEM, MASS. ---At its end-of-year meeting June 4, the Salem State College Board of Trustees elected Revere native and West Peabody resident Deirdre A. Sartorelli, '83, to a one-year term as chairperson.

Ms. Sartorelli, manager of strategic business development at Cisco Systems, was first elected to the board of trustees in 1997 as Salem State College's alumni trustee. Since earning an undergraduate degree in business administration at the College in 1983, she has assumed many volunteer leadership roles for her alma mater, including past president of the SSC Alumni Association, vice president and secretary of the SSC Foundation, and chairperson for the 1995-1996 annual fund.

In 1997, she was named a recipient of the Elizabeth Wade Williams Award in recognition of her outstanding contributions to Salem State College.

On the occasion of her election, Sartorelli remarked that she was "honored to be serving as chair of the Salem State College Board of Trustees. Salem State College provided me with an excellent undergraduate education."

According to Sartorelli, the board's plans for the year to come are to "work with the College's administration to ensure that Salem State College continues to outpace its peers." It also plans to "continue its high level of academic offerings at an affordable tuition to Massachusetts families."
