SALEM - Three students have been named recipients of the 2003 Thomas G. Lathrop Award for demonstrating excellence in mathematics and computer science.

During a ceremony in the Sullivan Building on April 28, Jessica Miller of Swampscott, Victoria Richardson of Beverly and Nicholas Giarratani of Revere accepted the coveted award presented in memory of former professor Thomas G. Lathrop who is credited with starting the computer science department at Salem State College.

Professor Maura Murray of the mathematics department made the presentation to Miller. Professor Mary L. Pratt presented Richardson with her award. Professor Edward J. Wilkens of the computer science department made the presentation to Giarratani.
