SALEM, Mass. - Salem State College President Nancy D. Harrington
conferred an honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters degree to Terence McGinnis
of Lynn, a lawyer, community leader and Chairman of the Board of Trustees
of the North Shore Medical Center, at its commencement in May. McGinnis has been, "a model of citizenship, community involvement and service to others," Harrington said. "He is dedicated to the mission of the North Shore Medical Center which has increased services to surrounding communities with expanded emergency services at the Union Hospital in Lynn and Salem Hospital. The North Shore Medical Center has also established the first cardiac surgery program north of Boston." McGinnis is also Chairman of the Board of Directors and President of the Children's Law Center of Massachusetts, the state's largest legal service dedicated to providing legal services to children. "You provide competent, accessible representation for children and young adults whose access to legal assistance is limited by such factors as income, race, gender, disability, culture or language," Harrington told McGinnis. McGinnis is also Assistant General Counsel for Fleet Boston Financial Corporation and holds the rank of captain in the United State Naval Reserve. He formerly held the positions of Associate Counsel in the Department of Defense, Assistant Counsel in the United State House of Representatives and Vice President and Senior Counsel for Bank Boston Corp. |
