Harrington visits 18 Salem State alumni on Salem police force

SALEM – As part of Salem State College's 150 th anniversary celebration, president Nancy D. Harrington visited 18 college alumni who are members of the Salem police force at 3 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 18, at the Salem police headquarters on Jefferson Ave.

President Harrington“We at Salem State are proud that our alumni play a key role in the community,” Harrington said. “Throughout this year of celebration, the story of Salem State College will unfold in a myriad of ways. People now realize that this college, beginning in 1854 with 16 female students and one faculty member in one building, has evolved to play a major role in today's society.”

Ed LeClair and Carol Facella, past chairs of the college's criminal justice department, and Anne Sullivan, the current chair, joined Harrington on her visit.

Salem State alumni who are members of the force are: Chief Robert St. Pierre, Capt. Robert Callahan, Capt. Paul Tucker, Lt. Mary Butler, Lt. Matt Desmond, Lt. Brian Gilligan, Sgt. Robert Carter, Sgt. Kathleen Makros, Ofcr. Dennis King, Ofcr. Michael Shea, Ofcr. David Tucker, Ofcr. Edward Vaillancourt and executive secretary Mary Cantone, all of Salem, Det. Peter Baglioni of Wenham, Lt. Thomas Griffin of Saugus, Sgt. Robert Preczewski of Lynn, Sgt. James Walker of Danvers, and Ofcr. Robert Phelan of Peabody.
