SALEM, Mass. - The Explorers, a group of over 350 learners who are at least 50 years old, have moved their Salem State College operation to "the old telephone building" at 10 Federal Street. " This new location gives us a chance to grow," said chairperson Charlotte Whiteaker. The Federal Street location provides over 3,000 square feet of space for the Explorers who currently are offering 37 courses to their members. Members of the Salem State College faculty teach many of the classes. This group consists of retirement-age learners who have formed a cooperative educational program. Members pay a $150/single, $250/family annual membership fee, elect officers, serve on committees, and provide educational opportunities for themselves and their peers. " This is the Lifelong Learning Institute at Salem State College and it is open to the community," Whiteaker said. "The new location is convenient and handicapped accessible," she added. "And there is adequate parking." For more information, call the Explorers at (978) 744-0804 or visit their Web site at www.salemstate.edu/explorers |
