SALEM, Mass. - Making Salem State College one of his final stops along the campaign trail, Rep. John F. Tierney urged students Monday to get out and vote on Election Day.
"Your voting privilege is something that requires a little work," Tierney told a lunch-time gathering in the Dining Commons. "You should know the candidates and what they stand for," he continued. "You should know which party supports public higher education."
Tierney, a candidate for re-election to the U.S. House of Representatives in the Sixth District and an alumnus of Salem State College, voiced his support for Shannon O'Brien for Governor. "The Democratic Party has proven its committment to public higher education," he added.
After Tierney's speech, students took advantage of a Question and Answer session during which they asked the Congressman about concerns ranging from local election issues to the situation with Iraq.
His visit was sponsored by the Political Science Academy and the Bates Center for Public Affairs at Salem State College.
