SALEM, Mass. - Stephanie Dussourd, a junior communications major at Salem State College, will address possible cutbacks in student loan money at a 2 p.m. press conference in Boston today.
Dussourd, the editor in-chief of the Salem State College Log who has also lobbied on Beacon Hill against proposed budget cuts to state colleges, was invited to the press conference by Sen. Edward Kennedy's office.
"Because of the decision to cut the budgets of state colleges, students are faced with a significant fee hike for next year," Dussourd said. "Now, you combine that with a rollback in student loan money, and you make it impossible for some students to continue their college education."
Dussourd is a member of the Community Action Committee (CAN) which has been organized by students at Salem State College to seek the restoration of funds for higher education.
Dussourd can be reached at 978-335-3200. More information on CAN is available on the Web at www.salemstate.edu/can.
