SALEM, Mass. - Exceeding standards set forth by the National Academy of Early Childhood Programs, the Salem State College Preschool has received a one-year merit extension to its three-year accreditation. The extension, effective immediately, will keep the preschool in good standing through May, 31, 2004.
According to the National Association for the Education of Young Children, the Salem State College Preschool, located behind the Alumni House on the college's South Campus, received the Fourth-Year Merit Extension, "for its excellent record of consistently maintaining a high quality program for young children."
"I think consistency in our staffing was a big factor," said Beverly Gerson, director of the preschool. "Staffing has a direct effect on the quality of education."
In addition, the Salem State College Preschool has implemented The Reggio Approach to its curriculum. According to Gerson, "The Reggio Approach creates conditions for learning that enhance thinking through expressive, communicative and cognitive languages."
