SALEM - Students from Salem State College are teaming up with the Phoenix School for a 5K Fun Run/Walk at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 6.
Beginning and ending at the Salem Willows, the event is open to the public. Entry fee is $13 before March 30 and $15 after. T-shirts will be presented to the first 200 to register.
According to Heidi Grappendorf, a professor in the Sport, Leisure and Fitness Department at Salem State, the "April Showers Fun Run and Walk" is organized by students in her Marketing and Public Relations class "to raise money for a non-profit school."
"The students are getting sponsors, having flyers distributed, building a Web site, getting entry forms printed, compiling awards and prizes, arranging for police detail, planning the course and having T-shirts made," Grappendorf said. "It's a chance for students to reach out to the community while getting a hands-on learning experience."
Among the prizes and awards are two tickets to see the Mia Hamm lecture at the college on April 7.
