Cynthia McGurren receives first ever Businesswoman of the Year Award

SALEM, Mass. - Swampscott resident Cynthia McGurren has received the first ever 2002 Businesswoman of the Year Award from the Salem Chamber of Commerce. The award is presented to a female chamber member who has demonstrated excellence in business practices throughout the year and has demonstrated a sincere commitment to Salem.

McGurren, special assistant to the president at Salem State College, was nominated and selected by her peers through the Salem Chamber of Commerce. Her selection was based on her outstanding dedication to Salem State College, the Salem Chamber of Commerce, and to the community of Salem. According to Denise Flynn, executive director for the Salem Chamber of Commerce, "Cynthia McGurren has truly made a difference in our community. She has shown a sincere and longstanding commitment toward making Salem a better place to live and work."

McGurren received the award through the chambers premier "Celebrate Salem" awards held on April 5 at the 90th annual dinner held at the Daniel Low Building in downtown Salem. Roselyn Bartlett, communications manager for the chamber states, "It was great honor to present the 2002 Businesswoman of the Year Award to Cynthia McGurren. Cynthia has played a key role in the Salem business community."
