Salem, Mass. - Swampscott resident, Dr. Neal DeChillo, has been named Acting Dean for theSchools of Human Services at Salem State College. The college's board of trustees at their recent meeting unanimously approved his appointment.
DeChillo, professor of social work, joined the Salem State College faculty when he and his wife Mary moved to Swampscott in 1995. Mary is also a faculty member at Salem State College and a member of the Swampscott School Committee.
DeChillo assisted with the Partnership for an Educational Village, a joint effort between the Schools of Human Services at Salem State College and the Ford Elementary School in Lynn as Project Evaluator. He is an active member of the North East Area Children's Committee, as well as a member of Family-Centered Service Planning for the Massachusetts Department of Social Services. In addition, DeChillo has served on the Multi-disciplinary Assessment Team (MDAT) for the Department of Social Services in Lynn and as a research and evaluation consultant for Health and Educational Services, Inc. in Beverly and Family Continuity Programs in Lynn.
"Given the state budget it is an exceedingly difficult time for public education, I am very excited about what Salem State College can continue to bring to the North Shore and the Commonwealth. We have a wonderful faculty and great programs that fit well with the needs of the community," DeChillo said.
