Salem, Mass. -Cyndi Latusky and Sarah Newcomb, both of Salem, were recently elected to Co-Chair Salem State College's Community Action Network. The Community Action Network (C.A.N.) is a student and alumni effort fighting to save and restore funding to public higher education.

Latusky, a sophomore majoring in Communications, reports, "Funding needs to be more than just K-12, it needs to be K-16." CAN hopes to continue to educate the community on how the recent budget cuts will affect students and future students enrolled in public higher education. In addition members are organizing a voluntary Teach-In in September. "The Teach-In is a positive way to get more students involved and to educate the campus community on the budget cuts slashing through public higher education," states Latusky. "A quality education should be affordable and accessible," said Newcomb, the Student Representative for the Salem State College Board of Trustees.

For more information contact the Community Action Network at 978-542-7531 or visit the CAN Website at http://www.salemstate.edu/can.
