Two North Shore Residents Named to SSC Board
SALEM, MASS. - Lowell J. Gray of Swampscott and Joel R. Whitman of Peabody were recently named to the Salem State College Assistance Corporation Board of Directors. The Salem State College Board of Trustees approved Whitman's appointment at the Nov. 15, 2000 meeting and SSC President Nancy D. Harrington made Gray's appointment. Both men will serve a three-year term.
Gray, founder and chief executive office of the Lynn-based Shore.Net, a Primus Company, is a graduate of Harvard University and an honorary degree recipient from Salem State. Gray worked as a software engineer and manager for Telcordia, AT & T Bell Laboratories, Price Waterhouse and Harvard Medical School. Founding Eco Software, Inc., a software development company, in 1990, he relocated the company to Lynn and founded North Shore Access in 1993. Shore.Net evolved from North Shore Access.
A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, Whitman currently serves as Sr. Vice-President/Special Projects of Irving Tanning Co., where he previously was president and COO of two divisions. He also serves as a small business consultant, assisting with business and financial planning as well as developing sales/marketing plans.
The Salem State College Assistance Corporation (SSCAC) was established in 1996 to create a non-profit organization in order to purchase the former GTE Sylvania property, now known as Central Campus. SSCAC oversees the operations of The Enterprise Center at Salem State College, a mixed-use property located in the Agganis Building on Central Campus that offers professional facilities for small businesses at market rates, with an educational component for developing small businesses.
