SSC Professor Part of International Research Team at 2000 Olympics
Dr. Philip W. Kelly, associate professor of sport, fitness and leisure studies, will join an international team of researchers investigating crowd behavior at the Opening Ceremonies of the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, Australia, Sept. 15.
Dr. Kelly will be part of a select eight-member team of human movement experts headed by Dr. John Cheffers, chair of the Human Movement Program of Boston University's School of Education. Other team members came from Australia, Singapore, Germany and the United Kingdom. Professor Kelly was a doctoral student under Dr. Cheffers' guidance at B.U.
Following their observations at the opening ceremonies, Dr. Kelly and his colleagues worked throughout the night preparing a 20-page report that was then be turned over to the Sydney Olympic Committee for implementation.
Prior to the Olympics, Professor Kelly will present research on student cognitive involvement at the AIESEP World Sport Science Congress in Rockhampton, Queensland, Australia.
