Boucard
and Furtado receives
state achievement award
Salem
State College senior Nadege Boucard of Revere has been named to the Massachusetts
Hall of Black Achievement.
A business finance major with a minor in economics, Boucard has served
at the college as president of the Finance Association, vice president
of the Women's Center, treasurer of the Women's Center and has been active
in the African American Student Association and the Haitian American Caribbean
Association. She also has served as a peer leader at the college's Alternative
to Individual Development program.
Serving as an active member of The International Fellowship of Christians
and Jews, Boucard has helped provide financial support to three boys in
Haiti as well as support efforts to transport Russian Jews back to Jerusalem.
She teaches Sunday school at Emmanuel Baptist Church in more Miami, Fla.
and at Eglise Bethel in Somerville. Boucard plans to pursue a doctorate
in International Business before conducting international business with
her home country of Haiti.
Salem
State College student Herminio Furtado of Brockton has been named to the
Massachusetts Hall of Black Achievement.
A senior majoring in political science with minors in economics and history,
Furtado has a 3.3 grade point average and has been named to the college
dean's list six straight semesters.
He has participated in the Harvard Model of the United Nations program,
researched the Cape Verdean community of Brockton and has served as a
peer tutor at Salem State College's foreign language department.
His leadership qualities have been demonstrated as captain of the SSC
soccer team, founder/president of the African Cape Verdean Assoc. and
cofounder of the Globalization Response Committee. He has also worked
at the Upward Bound Program through the college's learning center.
Furtado plans to pursue a master's degree in International Relations.
He hopes to also study at the University of Paris and to undertake an
internship in Washington, D.C.
