Owner of Lowell Spinners to discuss baseball and business at Salem State College

SALEM, Mass. - Drew Weber, owner and chief executive officer of the Lowell Spinners minor league franchise, will discuss baseball and business at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 18 at Salem State College's Martin Luther King Room in the Ellison Center on the North Campus.

According to Anthony Guerriero, a Salem State alumnus (1992) who co-founded the college's History Association in 1991, Weber's lecture will focus on the business of minor league baseball. "He (Weber) will discuss what the Spinners mean to Lowell and the Merrimack Valley business community," Guerriero explained. "He'll also talk about his own background and how he came to be the owner of a minor league franchise," Guerriero added.

The Spinners are the Single A minor league affiliate of the Boston Red Sox.

Sponsored by the Salem State History Department and the Alumni Association, Weber's talk is in conjunction with the history course "A Social History of Baseball," being offered for the first time this year at Salem State College. Guerriero, of Revere, teaches the course.

Guerriero spent 15 months researching Jackie Robinson's influence on baseball in the United States. He is secretary of the Salem State College Alumni Association.

The event is free and open to the public. Call (978) 542-6286 for more information.
