for North Shore elementary, middle schools

SALEM - Over 300 students from 23 elementary and middle schools across the North Shore took part in the annual Women in Science and Engineering Career Day program in the Harrington Building on the South Campus of Salem State College Friday, March 16, 2001.

Highlighting the event was Fox News meteorologist Kim Martuchi who encouraged the young students to challenge themselves to be whatever they want to be. "Find something you like and go after it," she told the students.

The purpose of the WISE Project Click for larger viewis to interest young women in the variety of science and engineering fields that are open to them. "Response to this year's project was overwhelming, illustrating the need and support for this type of endeavor," WISE committee member Jane Seibel said.

The WISE program is organized through the Collaborative Project for Mathematics, Science and Interdisciplinary Education which is involved in linking North Shore teachers, colleges and industry for the improvement of math and science education.
