Information
What
Is Study Abroad?
Study
Abroad is an opportunity for any Salem State College Student to
experience another culture by studying at a foreign institution
for a semester, year, or summer. Experiencing life in another country
and culture will broaden your understanding of the language, people
and the educational and social systems of a different world region.
The College is committed to making programs available and encouraging
any interested student to study abroad in order to discover the
world and bring it home.
What
is the Mission of Study Abroad?
The
mission of the Salem State College Study Abroad Program is:
to
provide information and guidance to help students pursue study
in a foreign country in order to expand their knowledge of another
country and culture and broaden their view of the world, and
to
enable other SSC Students to learn from those who have studied
abroad
Where
Can I Study?
Salem
State College has semester and year long Study Abroad Programs in
Oxford, England; Caen, France; Oviedo, Spain, and belongs to the
College Consortium for International Studies (CCIS) which has programs
in 26 different countries. Additional opportunities in just about
any country in the world are also available through programs sponsored
by other institutions.
Where
Have Other SSC Students Gone?
In
the past few years, SSC students have studied in Australia, the
Dominican Republic, Ecuador, England, France, Ireland, Italy, Kenya,
Mexico, and Spain.
Can
I Afford to Study Abroad?
Most
Study Abroad programs are comparable in cost to a semester at Salem
State. Others can be much more expensive, depending on the program
and the cost of living in a particular country. Financial Aid can
be applied toward study abroad and extra expenses including airfare
and personal expenses can be included in your financial aid application.
So, in short, Study Abroad is an affordable, once-in-a-lifetime
experience!
Will
I Get College Credit?
