¨ CIBES has been sponsoring a research project by Dr. Edward Desmarais of the Management Department and Dr. Kristine Doll, Chairperson of the Foreign Languages Department. This project is attempting to identify: 1.The linguistic and cultural competency requirements of the Northshore small to mid-size business community, 2.The ability of SSC students and recent graduates to address global competency requirements, and 3.The ability of SSC as a whole, to address these competency requirements.
¨
As a result of cooperation with the Small Business
Development Center (SBDC), CIBES placed the first international trade intern,
Kristina Nink, a native of Germany, at the Central Campus Enterprise Center for
1999-2000 academic year, to assist small to medium size businesses in the
Northshore area.
¨
CIBES and SBDC - Northeast Region organized a half-day
workshop entitled "Developing
a Strategy for Entering the European Union" for small to medium size
businesses which was co-sponsored by the different Chambers of Commerce in the
Northshore area of Massachusetts and the Massachusetts Export Center. More than forty participants, representing
more than thirty businesses from New England, attended this very successful
seminar on 19 April 2000. A case
study approach was used for the first time, showcasing a client company (Renco)
instead of the usual generic workshop approach.
¨
In May 2000, the first students in the International
Business Concentration that was designed by Dr. Farahbakhsh, graduated from
SSC. Kristina Nink, a student from Germany,
graduated with high honors from the Day Program. Guiomar Rudnicki, a native of Columbia, graduated from the
evening program.
¨
Thanks to Ralph Pecora, Dr. Farahbakhsh's Graduate
Assistant, and after almost two years of hard work, the CIBES web page is off
and running. You may visit the site at:

Economy: The United States of America" 2000 Summer Business Institute.
