Our staff provides preventive and episodic (illness) care to all Salem State students. Our goal is to help students achieve and maintain optimum physical and emotional health by providing high quality, accessible and affordable health care. We offer medical care, consultation on health-related issues, health promotion programs, and referrals and collaboration with area providers. Most services are available free of charge, although certain diagnostic tests are billed to your health insurance. Our staff includes nurse practitioners and a supervising physician who are supported by administrative support staff
Our health care team is committed to providing high quality and timely services to our students. If your condition requires more specialized services we will assist in coordinating your referral to a specialist.
- Routine or annual physical exams
- Annual gynecological exams, including pap smears
- Reproductive Health - on site birth control, emergency contraception, counseling
- Sexually transmitted disease testing and counseling
- Diagnosis and treatment of minor illness and injury
- Routine lab testing
- Referrals and coordination for x-ray services
- Tobacco cessation counseling with trained providers
- Required Vaccinations as well as Flu shots and Gardasil

**Beginning fall 2013, health services will begin billing students' health insurance for health visits. The mandatory college fee will be used as the student co-pay, meaning that there is no out of pocket cost for students to use our services. For after-hours access to emergency contraception (EC), also known as Plan B.
A trained staff person will assess if EC is needed and if so, call a prescription into the chosen pharmacy. Please have pharmacy phone number when you call. With a prescription, most insurers will cover the cost of the medication without co-pay, but it is also available over the counter to anyone over the age of 15.
