Chemistry & Physics
Welcome to the Department of Chemistry and Physics’ webpages, a resource designed not only for current and prospective chemistry majors and physics minors, but for anyone with an interest in these disciplines.
Considering pursuing a chemistry degree at Salem State College? We offer majors programs in four tracks, including Biochemistry and an American Chemical Society approved degree. You can use a chemistry degree to obtain a job in the chemical industry, to prepare for graduate study in chemistry or as preparation for law, dental, or medical school.
Our students have used their degree in chemistry to obtain careers at General Electric, Osram Sylvania, Genetics Institute, and Waters Corporation. Others are working on graduate degrees at Penn State, Brandeis, Brown, Tufts, and RPI.
We have a diverse faculty working in all the major areas of chemistry and we are well-equipped with up-to-date instrumentation including a high field NMR spectrometer, a GC/MS, an HPLC, Atomic Absorption Spectrometer, numerous GC's and FT-IR's, and Fluoresence and UV/Vis Spectrometers.
Besides being an official Student Affiliate Chapter of the Council of the American Chemical Society, the student-run Chemical Society is a great place to study, find a tutor, or just relax.
