Move Schedules
Please contact your supervisor for information pertaining to your specific move date.
Moving Computers
Do I Need To Disconnect My Own Computer For The Move?
NO. Please label any large pieces such as the monitor and CPU with a “move label” that will be provided. Labels should include the new destination room number only. Each person should then set aside one empty moving box, label it, and set it aside. The IT staff will come in before you leave the afternoon before your move date and will disconnect all of your equipment and pack all of your peripherals (cables, keyboard tray etc.). They will place all of these items in your empty box and seal it so that they can open it at the other end and set everything up the same in the new building as you have it in your existing space. Movers will move all of your equipment and boxes to the new building. Please do not tamper with this box once it arrives or there will be a risk of lost cables or pieces needed to reconnect your equipment.
Will my computer be working when I arrive the day after the move?
The IT staff will work as quickly as possible to reconnect all equipment. We ask that you allow 2-3 business days before all computers are completely operational. The process will be expedited if the individual faculty members are available during the reconnection of their computers.
What should we do with old computer equipment in our department that we will not be moving?
Please address these items as soon as possible. You can call the IT Help Desk at x2036 (or e-mail at it-helpdesk@salemstate.edu) to arrange a pickup of any unwanted computer equipment (no typewriters please). Please have the SSC tag number on each piece ready when you call, as well as room numbers and any necessary contact information for the pickup. Please take time to identify and deal with these items well in advance of your move date. There will be no surplus pickups during peak move times (August 29 – September 29).
What About My Telephone? Do Not Unplug Your Telephone!
DO NOT UNPLUG YOUR TELEPHONE!!
It is important to emphasize that failure to comply with this request may result in a disruption of phone service for an extended period of time! Arrangements are being made for a technician to disconnect, move and reconnect all of the equipment. During the relocation of the phones, it will be possible to access your voice mail from any other phone (including your home phone!) Any saved voice messages will remain in your mailbox during the move. Again it is important to remember: DO NOT UNPLUG YOUR TELEPHONE!!
Will I have the same actual telephone and telephone number in the new building?
Yes. During the move you will have limited access to your actual telephone, but you will have complete access to your voice mail at all times. Voice messages may be retrieved from any other extension or from an outside telephone or cellular phone.
One Man's Trash
How Do I Get Additional Trash Barrels In My Department?
Please contact Dale Coogan at ext. 6004 for assistance.
What do I do about broken typewriters or furniture?
These items need to be disposed of but must also be removed from the inventory list. Please contact Ralph Berry at x6394 and advise him of any items that you feel should be disposed of before the move.
Are shredding services available?
Yes, shredding services on-site (certified) or off-site are available. We will attempt to do "bulk shredding" but will make every attempt to accommodate personal requests. Call Dale Coogan at x6004 to schedule.
Are there guidelines on what to shred?
There are no official guidelines at this time. Please use your own judgment. Anything with confidential information such as account numbers, social security number, etc. should always be shredded.
Boxes, Packing & General Info
Clean Out the Clutter!
Please begin your purge process as soon as possible. As moving day will be here soon, we encourage everyone to clean out well in advance. Cleaning out excess materials in advance of the move will make moving day much less stressful. Remember, the less there is to pack, the less there is to unpack! Try to set aside a period of time each day to review files and excess documents…this will make the task seem much less daunting.
