SEA – Starting Early At SSC (Grades 4-8)

July 7-25, 2008 Monday-Friday, 9:00am - Noon

Starting Early At Salem State College, SEA, is open to ALL students currently enrolled in grades 4 - 8. Our program consists of one (1) course module per week, so that students can attend for one, two or all three weeks! The students will really sink their teeth into the subject matter! Each class is small in size, and provides enough time and materials for your young person to learn even more about the topics they choose to study.

Rock–On Drumming - So you want to join a rock band? Get the basics of drumming in this fun class.

Be a Radio D.J. FOR REAL!- You will actually be on the air on WMWM, 91.7, the SSC Radio station.

Scrapbooking/Card-Making For All – Create Scrapbooks to hold the keepsakes of your life and learn to make your own cards.

Say Cheese! Introduction to Photography – Learn to use a 35mm camera, and develop black and white photos in the Salem State dark room. Bring your own 35mm camera with black and white film so that you can take photos on the first day.

CSI – Learn how real-life detectives solve crimes, crime scenes, fingerprinting, DNA and more!

Edible Science – Learn how to properly organize and conduct a science experiment and be able to eat your results!

The Art of Drawing – Learn the basics of shapes, shading and contour, and portrait drawing. Explore still life and mixed media creations.

Invention Workshop - Learn about inventors and become one yourself in this hand-on workshop.

Play Chess Like an Expert – Learn from a Senior Chess Master. Beginners & advanced players welcome.

Be an International Chef – Italy, Southeast Asia, France, Mexico, India YUM!

Furniture Painting Workshop – Bring your own piece of unfinished or old furniture (not too large) and turn boring into beautiful!

Drama Workshop – Learn about stage directions, experiment with improvisation, try out different accents and perform for friends and family at the end of the program.

Babysitter Training – Taught by a school nurse, learn the responsibilities and qualities of being a good babysitter. Basic CPR included.

Stop the Presses – Become the reporter, photographer and editor as we create our own newspaper!

Cooking Made Simple – Mac N Cheese, Tacos and more! Basic cooking techniques, simple knife skills, and sanitation will be the theme.

Scenic Design – Translate thoughts and feelings into drawings, models and scenery – a hands-on approach to design.

Tie-Dye Workshop – Make beautiful decorations, and beautify your clothes!

Be a Meteorologist – Learn how different types of weather form, how storms develop, and natural disasters. Make a weather instrument that you can use at home!

Graphic Design – Make your own website using basic image manipulation and other skills to create functional and original pages.

Salem History – Learn about the rich history of Salem and the wonders that are right here in our backyard!

Michelangelo Move Over! - Sculpting- Delve into the world of 3D art. Get your hands dirty and have the freedom to create.

Hip Hop – Dance, Dance, Dance Part I - (Repeats Week 2) So, you think you can dance? Put on your dance shoes and be prepared to show us your moves! Part II offered week 2, if you want to continue.
