Non-Credit Community Enrichment & C.E.U. Programs Policies
The rules, regulations, policies, fees and other charges, courses of study, and academic requirements that appear on this Web site were in effect at the time the site was created. Like everything found on this site, they are provided for informational purposes only, and they do not constitute a contract between the College and any student, applicant for admission or other person.
Whether noted elsewhere on this site or not, the College reserves the right to change, eliminate, and/or add to any existing (and to introduce additional) rules, regulations, policies, fees and other charges, courses of study and academic requirements. Whenever it does so, the College will give as much advance notice as it considers feasible and appropriate, but it reserves the right in all cases to do so without notice.
After registering for your course(s), you will be handed or mailed a student schedule. Please verify the course number, date and time. Room locations are printed on this schedule. Please read your confirmation carefully! Please check this page for location codes.
Community Enrichment courses may be cancelled due to insufficient enrollments. Therefore, it is in your best interest to register early! The Community Enrichment office will contact you approximately five days before class starts. Staff members will be glad to help you select an alternative course or section.
Community Enrichment courses may also be cancelled due to inclement weather and are subject to the Salem State College Policy on Closings Due to Emergencies.
Online courses are never cancelled! Please review the Online Course Policies for further information.
Refund Policy and Course Withdrawals
When a student withdraws from a non-credit course, regardless of the reason, instructional and other costs must still be met. Therefore, refunds for withdrawals are adjusted according to the following schedule.
- Prior to the first class meeting
100% refund, less $10.00 registration fee (Included in the cost of the course)
- Prior to the second class meeting
50% refund, less $10.00 registration fee (Included in the cost of the course)
- After the second class meeting
NO REFUNDS
Students who wish to receive a refund must follow the Withdrawal Procedure listed below. Refunds take approximately 4 - 6 weeks to process. A voucher may be substituted for a refund if desired.
Non-Credit Online Course Refunds
Online courses are subject to the Online Course Policies.
NOTE: Refunds for non-credit, online courses, are not granted for any reason! Please read all course descriptions carefully to be sure you are registering for the most appropriate course for you. Once you have registered for the course you may discontinue study, but no refund will be granted.
To officially withdraw from a Community Enrichment (non-credit), CEU or CEH course, you must obtain and complete an official Student Action Form. A refund will be warranted only if a student follows the Refund Policy noted above.
A discount of 10% is offered on a space available basis only. Students must register on the day the class begins. Positive I.D. required. Tuition Remission forms may be used on a limited basis for Community Enrichment Programs, on a space available basis only. Please call 978-542-6331 before completing your Registration and Tuition Remission form for information on course fees.
Discounts are not applicable to Scenic Tours or Online Courses!
Massachusetts State Employees are entitled to tuition remission for non-credit, community enrichment courses as follows: Qualified Massachusetts State Employees will pay a $10 registration fee, included in the cost of the course, and 50% of the balance of the cost of the course. For those State Employees entitled to a fee waiver, the $10 Registration Fee is waived. Registration must include the Massachusetts Tuition Remission form, and is strictly done on a space-available-basis only (5 business days before class begins). If a student registers before the space-available period, full tuition/fees must be paid, and cannot be refunded. Tuition Remission and Fee Waivers cannot be used for non-credit, Community Enrichment online courses/certificate programs or for other courses where Tuition Remission policy is stated within the course description.
All registered participants will be issued a temporary parking permit at the time of registration. This permit must be clearly visible when parking in the following designated areas on campus: Peabody Hall Parking Lot, O'Keefe Sports Complex Parking Lot, Main Lot, South Campus (Harrison Road) Parking Lot, Central Campus Parking Lot. Parking in any other area other than these or the absence of a visible parking permit will be cause for a parking ticket.
