Eurasia

The Concert Band and Wind Ensemble, the two largest ensembles of the music department, perform Eurasian classical and folk pieces including works by Aram Khachaturian (Armenian Dances), Pavel Tchesnokov (Two Chorales), Vasilij Agapkin (Farewell to a Slavonic Woman), and Dmitri Shostakovich (Folk Dances). Some works are decidedly Eastern European; others reflect further Eastern occidental sounds. Agapkin's work is described as a "Sousa meets the Volga Boatman" style march, bringing to mind a Russian military band marching through Moscow's Red Square. This is the final concert of the Music Department for the academic year.
