Dance Department Spreads the Joy of Zombie Dancing
Students from the Salem State dance department taught many eager zombies at the second Annual Zombie Monster Mash, hosted by the CCPA. Perhaps none were more eager than these lovelies from the Salem Boys and Girls Club. From left, Kamryn Anderson, Lily Muenzner, Danielle Foley (Salem State dance department), Nikkol Weber, Michelle Shaerekh, and Jonathan Ozek (Salem State dance department). Several hundred onlookers braved the rain for the afternoon performance on the Salem Common.
The Center for Creative and Performing Arts Forms Community Partnership with Art Throb
North Shore Art Throb bounced on the scene last spring, and has so quickly filled the void of a central arena for the arts on the North Shore, that it has become the go-to spot for arts coverage. Now, with support from donors to the Center for Creative and Performing Arts, Art Throb begins a year-long partnership with Salem State College, following up last year's community arts partnership with New England Light Opera.
Art Throb features contributing writers and journalists from across the North Shore focusing on theater, music, visual arts, literature, poetry, film and more. Salem State students will work with Art Throb founder Dinah Cardin throughout the academic year both directly and through on-campus workshops teaching arts students how to market themselves and how to utilize social media as an artist.
Music Department Welcomes Elementary School Groups
The Music Department often coordinates with elementary school groups across the North Shore. Salem State music majors introduce youngsters to musical instruments through youth-relevant performance and instrument petting zoos. "Making Music Together: A Collaborative Approach to Education" is free to schools and made possible with support from Staples and Target Community Foundations.
