The Arts
Music
The Music Department, with the newly built, state-of-the-art recital hall, is growing faster than any other Center for the Arts department. Regular offerings include Music on Mondays, an ongoing series of faculty and visiting artist performances, as well as the Distinguished Artist Series, which invites world class musicians to perform at the college.
The Jazz Band, the Chorus, the Chamber Singers and the Instrumental Chamber Ensembles from Percussion to World Music to classic chamber groups all perform multiple times a semester. Often, during community time, Mondays at 11 am, the Music Department hosts well known musicians from the Boston area for master classes and music industry career workshops.
Music Department Welcomes Elementary School Groups
The Music Department often coordinates with elementary school groups across the North Shore. Salem State music majors introduce youngsters to musical instruments through youth-relevant performance and instrument petting zoos. "Making Music Together: A Collaborative Approach to Education" is free to schools and made possible with support from Staples and Target Community Foundations.
