| Janet Sebell is the Coordinator of the Undergraduate Program of Art Education at Salem State College. Prior to coming to SSC, Janet taught art in a public school system for 22 years. In the art room, Janet's focus was on the discovery of measurable and replicable means to promote art as a language which makes the experience and expression of children's lives meaningful. Born into a family of artists, Janet shaped her passion for art into a career as an art educator, graduated from the Harvard Graduate School of Education and conducted research onstudent learning as a member of a National Art Education Task Force affiliated with the Art Education Program at Teacher's College. In 2001, Janet was the recipient of a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts to research the development of a nationally broadcast television series about art for children. Currently, Janet is enrolled in a doctoral program at UMass Lowell exploring the parallels between visual arts and language arts education and building bridges to children's expressive goals and potential. |
