Art Portfolio

Admission to the Art Major at Salem State College requires an Art portfolio. The following helpful hints may be useful in preparing the portfolio. A good art portfolio demonstrates a wide
range of skills, therefore, it is important to study art and to learn a variety of artistic techniques. Try to work in different mediums.

  1. It is recommended that your portfolio contain 10-15 original works. You may include some work from your imagination, but it is best to work from direct observation. Do not include copied work.
  2. If you include black and white photographs, they should be images that you personally have printed.
  3. If you include slides or photographs of 3-dimensional art (ceramics, sculpture, jewelry, etc.), please include at least two views of each work.
  4. Presentation is important. If you choose to submit slides, they should be original work, in sharp focus, clear and bright. They should be matted. Mats on drawings, prints, and watercolor paintings should be neatly cut.
  5. Finally, include only your best work.

Slide portfolios can be sent to:

return. If you do not have slides of your work, you may
