Alumni Weekend 2008Salem State College is connecting with the City of Salem to host an Alumni Weekend like never before. This is your weekend to reunite with friends and former classmates while enjoying the events we have planned for you. Stay on campus in our modern residence hall, located just minutes from downtown Salem. While here, enjoy the wonderful restaurants, shops, museums and historic sites that Salem has to offer – many at special Alumni Weekend discount rates. Thursday, May 29

Start the Weekend early! On-campus housing is available starting today in our modern and (almost) luxurious Central Campus Residence Hall. Visit historic downtown Salem where local shops and restaurants are ready and waiting to welcome you to the Salem community. Visit the Salem Chamber of Commerce for "Things to Do in Salem." Residence Hall check-in starts at noon.

Annual Grand Reception
6:30 p.m., Atrium, Peabody Essex Museum, Salem

Meet President Patricia Maguire Meservey at the Annual Grand Reception in the spectacular Atrium at the Peabody Essex Museum. This elegant evening for networking, cocktails and camaraderie features a sneak peek at this weekend's Whirled Peas premiere and a preview of Summer Theatre. Hot hors d'oeuvres and cash bar. Complimentary wine served until 7:15 p.m.

50th Reunion Society Coffee with President Meservey & Campus Tour
10:00 – 11:45 a.m., Central Campus

Meet your fellow 50th Reunion Society members in the Residence Hall on Central Campus for a continental breakfast with Pres. Meservey before departing on a campus tour aboard a comfortable motor coach. which departs from Central Campus promptly at 10:45 a.m.

Alumni Association Awards Luncheon
Noon – 2:00 p.m., Dining Commons, North Campus

The Alumni Association will announce this year's recipients of the Distinguished Alumna/us, Elizabeth Williams Wade, and Special Recognition awards. We will also honor the 50th Reunion Society and the Class of 1958.

Special Alumni Theatre Presentation "Thoroughly Stupid Things"

A sexy and hilarious sequel to "The Importance of Being Earnest" by Oscar Wilde, "Thoroughly Stupid Things" peeks in on Gwendolen and Cecily several years into the doldrums of marriage with all of its pitfalls. Fresh from its New York City premiere, the alumni cast is ready to bring this comedy to their alma mater and to the North Shore. May we suggest dinner before the show at one of Salem's fabulous restaurants.

Alumni Night at the Boston Pops
8:00 p.m., Symphony Hall, Boston
Gospel Night at the Pops

The fantastic all-volunteer choir that "raised the rafters and made spirits soar" (Boston Globe) returns to Symphony Hall for its 15th performance. Accompanied by special guest singer and multiple Grammy nominee Oleta Adams. Charles Floyd conducts. Meet at SSC's Central Campus for transportation by luxury motor coach, departing promptly at 6:30 p.m. Tickets may be purchased with or without transportation. Seating is limited, so reserve early.

Class of 2003 5th Reunion
7:30 p.m., Finz, Pickering Wharf, Salem

Welcome back to campus! Your 5th reunion is the perfect time to begin a tradition of keeping in touch with your friends and former classmates while you rediscover your alma mater. Enjoy cocktails and hors d'oeuvres.

After Party for All Alumni and Friends
10:00 p.m., Central Campus Residence Hall

Sunday Jazz Brunch with President Meservey

Join President Meservey for a Sunday Jazz Brunch, complete with champagne, jazz musicians, and a variety of fabulous foods! A community event, for alumni, faculty, staff, administrators and friends!

Alumni Baseball Game & Tail Gate Party*
2:00 p.m., Baseball Field, Central Campus

Play Ball! Join fellow alumni and former teammates for the inaugural alumni baseball game to be played on the new, state-of-the-art field. Get into the swing of things and don't miss your chance to hit one out of the park.

Alumni Tennis Match & Tail Gate Party*
2:00 p.m., Tennis Courts, Central Campus

Calling all players! A set of six new courts await your arrival for the inaugural alumni tennis match. Whether you played as a student or just bought a racquet, this is your chance to serve up a victory.

*Tailgate party, immediately following the game/matches, includes a traditional summer barbecue with a cash bar (wine and beer only.)
