In addition to the requirements below, please see the
admissions section for specific deadlines and additional requirements for freshman
and transfer applicants:
Freshman
- Original high school transcript(s) or diploma/graduation certificate which must be in English or professionally translated. The translation must include a list of courses completed and the grades received.
- Official test score results for SAT or ACT.
- The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL); minimum scores: 500 (written), 173 (computerized) and 61 (Internet-based); or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) passing score of 5.5. Students from English speaking countries, whose first language is English are exempt from the TOEFL and/or IELTS. If you completed high school/secondary school in English you may be exempt from the TOEFL and/or IELTS. Please contact cie@salemstate.edu.
Transfer
- All original transcripts/credentials from overseas institutions must be in English or professionally translated into English; and evaluated by a professional evaluation service (such as: The Center for Educational Documentation at www.cedevaluations.com or World Education Services at www.wes.org).
- The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL); minimum scores: 500 (written), 173 (computerized) and 61 (Internet-based). Students from English speaking countries or whose first language is English are exempt. Students who have successfully completed English composition I and/or II from an accredited college in the United States with a grade of B or better are exempt as well. If you completed high school/secondary school or took at least 12 university credits in English you may be exempt from the TOEFL and/or IELTS. Please contact cie@salemstate.edu
Center of International Education (CIE) also requires:
Letters of financial support from parents and/or sponsors, a copy of the applicant’s passport and adequate financial documents showing sufficient funds; for more information, contact CIE at cie@salemstate.edu
