Writers Series with Ann Taylor and Kevin Carey
Ann Taylor’s recently released collection of poems The River Within is the inaugural winner of the Cathlamet Prize for Poetry given by the Ravenna Press. Her poems have appeared in Arion, Aurorean, Ellipsis, The Copperfield Review, The Dalhousie Review, Appalachia, Del Sol Review, Classical and Modern Literature, and Utah English Journal. She has written a collection of personal essays, Watching Birds: Reflections on the Wing (Ragged Mountain/McGraw Hill) and two college composition texts. She will read from The River Within.
Kevin Carey is the author of the newly released The One Fifteen to Penn Station, published in the New Voices series of CavanKerry Press. His work has appeared in The Literary Review, The Paterson Literary Review and The Comstock Review. Carey’s poetry has been nominated for a Pushcart Prize and has won both an Allen Ginsberg Poetry Award and Best of the Net 2011 recognition. His screenplay Peter’s Song, co-written with Ed Boyle, won Best Screenplay at the 2009 New Hampshire Film Festival, and his one-act plays have been staged at The New Works Festival in Newburyport and at The New Hampshire Theater Project. A part-time filmmaker, Carey recently completed a documentary film, All That Lies Between Us, about New Jersey poet Maria Mazziotti Gillan. Carey will share selections from The One Fifteen to Penn Station, published by CavanKerry Press.
Please note: this event, like all Writers Series events is free. There will be a special wine and hors d'oeuvre reception with the poets at 6:30 pm, prior to this reading. Tickets for the reception are $30 and the proceeds benefit the English Department's Ellen B. Vellela Scholarship.
