What is MassTransfer?

MassTransfer provides Massachusetts community college students who complete associate degrees and enroll in linked MassTransfer programs with the full transfer of credit, guaranteed admission and a tuition discount (each based on final GPA).

Please be aware MassTransfer does not apply to every major at Salem State University. The student must complete a specific associate’s degree from their community college which is linked to one of our majors. Please visit the MassTransfer website for the most up to date agreements.

Applying

Timeline

Your MassTransfer status will not be official until after you have completed the appropriate linked associate’s program. You can apply to Salem State University as a transfer student prior to receiving your associate’s degree, but your MassTransfer benefits will not apply until after your final transcript has been received. Please be aware, this is different from MassTransfer Block.

Application

Students may submit the MassTransfer intent to enroll form, however we prefer the student submit our own online application. Our online application acts exactly the same way as the intent to enroll form, as we have an option to select you are a MassTransfer applicant.

Benefits

After completing your associate degree with at least 60 credit hours you will be eligible to transfer into a linked MassTransfer program at a Massachusetts state university or University of Massachusetts campus with the following benefits:

Guaranteed admission

  • Enrolls continuously (full- or part-time) in day program; and
  • Achieves 3.0 GPA in first two semesters

NEW SCHOLARSHIP

Students transferring directly to Salem State within one year of graduation from a Massachusetts State Community College with an associate's degree that included completion of the Mass Transfer Block with a GPA of 3.0 will be eligible for a scholarship for the amount of in-state day tuition. Students must be admitted for fall 2014 or beyond, enroll as a full time day student, and stay continuously enrolled for the full four semesters of eligibility. In order to maintain the scholarship for the second year of study, students must maintain an overall GPA of 3.0 at Salem State. 

Students who don't meet the full time enrollment criteria but who otherwise meet the criteria above may still be eligible for the Mass Transfer 33 percent tuition discount, subject to review for eligibility. Before full eligibility can be determined, students must provide a final transcript from their sending community college showing both the associate's degree and Mass Transfer certification. Final eligibility is contingent upon full time registration before the end of the add/drop period.

Deadlines

  • Students graduating in May or before for fall 2014 admission: August 8, 2014
  • Students graduating in August for fall 2014 admission: September 22, 2014
  • Students graduating in August or before for spring 2015 admission: November 1, 2014
  • Students graduating in December 2014 for spring 2015 admission: January 23, 2015
