Transferring Credit

  • Credit transfer depends upon your major and the applicability of completed courses.
  • Whenever possible, we will consider courses completed with a C- or better for transfer
  • A grade of P (Pass) will not transfer.
  • The transfer of credit will be based on your previous college's regional accreditation status, as well as comparability to courses, faculty credentials and requirements offered at Salem State College.
  • If transferring from a two-year college, you may transfer up to a maximum of 68 credits.
  • If transferring 30 or more credits, you will be exempt from the one-credit physical education requirement.
  • Upon transfer, you must successfully complete at least one year (a minimum of 30 credit hours) at Salem State College in order to receive the Bachelor's Degree.

Majors

We offer a complete array of majors and minors to meet your academic and career goals.

Advanced Placement and College Level Examination Program

Salem State College recognizes that prior learning outside the regular academic setting can be a valuable part of your educational experience. We have developed several methods through which you can validate your mastery of an academic subject and petition for academic credit. The following examinations can validate prior learning and result in academic credit: Advanced Placement with a score of 3 or higher; College Level Examination Program (CLEP); general and subject examinations; challenge exams; and ACTPEP exams. Please contact Academic Advising for a list of acceptable AP, CLEP and challenge exams:
