Transfer Opportunities
What special transfer opportunities are available? Salem State College offers many transfer opportunities so that you can maximize your credits from other academic institutions.
MassTransfer
Students who attended a Massachusetts public university, college or community college may be eligible for special transfer opportunities. Please check with the Transfer Office at your college.
Joint Admissions Program
Students have the opportunity to participate in a Joint Admissions program if an Associate's Degree at a Massachusetts community college has been completed in a designated discipline with a GPA of 2.5 or higher. The Tuition Advantage Program (TAP) is available if you have a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Commonwealth Transfer Compact College Transfers
If you completed an Associate Degree in a designated Commonwealth Transfer Compact at a Massachusetts Community College, the degree will be honored as a unit and construed as completion of at least 60 hours of work toward a Bachelor's Degree, and completion of at least 35 hours toward fulfillment of the general education requirements for the baccalaureate. This agreement only pertains to designated transfer programs and is not in force for those programs that are considered terminal in nature. Students changing programs markedly may expect that it will require more than four semesters to complete the sequences for a new major.
NOTE:You are urged to contact your transfer counselor at your community college before the second semester to ensure courses taken meet Compact requirements.
Massachusetts State College & University Transfers
If you have completed the general education requirements at one Massachusetts state college, you shall not be obliged to meet additional or different general education requirements of the receiving college. The completion of a Bachelor's Degree or a letter from the previous state college stating that the general education requirements are complete is required.
Bachelor's Degree Students
If you have completed a Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited college or university in the United States, you shall not be obligated to meet the Salem State College general education requirements (core and distribution) unless specified by the major department. Salem State College will evaluate your college transcripts for both accreditation and the completion of your Bachelor's Degree.
Articulation Agreements
Salem State has several articulation agreements with Massachusetts two-year colleges to help students move from an Associate's Degree to a Bachelor's Degree with little or no loss of college credit. These agreements are based on specific academic disciplines. Please see the following listing of Articulation Agreements:
