Department Overview

The Department is located in the Administration and Finance Building, 2nd floor at the North Campus. The Facilities Department is responsible for installations, maintenance and service of College Facilities. Their office is open from Monday through Friday between 8am and 4:30pm all year round.

Operations
The operations of the Facilities Department include:
  • Routine Maintenance
    • Routine maintenance includes daily service works on buildings & grounds and this helps to maintain favorable working environment as well as identify faults on various structures for timely correction. The Assistant Director of Buildings and Grounds coordinates routine maintenance with the assistance of foremen and other specialized maintenance staff.
  • Corrective Maintenance
    • This invoves replacements and repairs on buildings & grounds and other College facilities when they breakdown. The corrective jobs are done as soon as possible with priority to emergency cases. The Help Line is the main reporting channel of any emergency breakdown of facilities in the College. All other faults or breakdown of facilities should be reported to the Department by filling in a work order form which is available on request from the Department office. The Director of Operations coordinates corrective maintenance with assistance of the heads of diffent units/structures and the help line coordinator.
  • Preventive Maintenance
    • Preventive maintenance is mainly carried out on air conditioning system to ensure a constant supply of heating and cooling services in all the buildings. It involves constant inspection and service of the air conditioning equipment to maintain the required operation standards and to prevent any interruptions. This section is also responsible for maintenance contracts for emergency generators, elevators, fire equipment & alarms, plumbing and electricity. The Director of Energy and Utilities is responsible for preventive maintenance jobs with the assistance of a maintenance foreman and other technical experts.
  • Renovations and Improvements
    • Renovations and improvements are undertaken on existing structures and as well as developing new installations. Most of these activities are carried out on project basis with prior planning and scheduling. They are subject to budjet constrains and are executed on the basis of priority. The Senior Project Manager coordinates the entire process of appraising projects and bringing them to the implentation stage as well as overseeing renovations and improvement on existing structures. The latest project which was completed during fall is the renovation of the Sullivan building which now has a new and attractive look.
  • Help Line
    • The Facilities Emergency Help Line is a dedicated telephone line within the Facilities Department to handle a facilities related emergency ie., a situation that needs to be handled immediately or at most within 24 hours for concerns such as leaks, broken pipes, broken glass, too hot/cold, etc.  In such instances, please dial 4357 (HELP) and someone will assit you.  If we are unable to answer leave a message.

      Important to remember
      If you need assistance after 5pm on Monday through Friday or on Weekends, please call Campus Police for assistance at extension 6111.  They will assist you to contact the appropriate Facilities official.

      For non-emergency requests, such as moving furniture, painting or minor repairs, or other facilities related arrangements that need to be scheduled, please fill out this form.  For general questions and routine assistance, please call the Facilities Department Help Line at extension 4357 (HELP).
