The MTEL Center offers a variety of services for matriculated Salem State University students who are preparing for teacher licensure training:

  • A resource library of materials for some of the MTELs (for use within the MTEL Center)
  • Small group preparation sessions for Communication and Literacy and Foundations of Reading
  • Low-cost workshops for some MTEL tests

We currently offer workshops for the following MTELs:

  • Communication and Literacy
  • Foundations of Reading
  • Early Childhood
  • General Curriculum Multi-Subject
  • General Curriculum Math
  • Middle School/High School Math Review

Please note: At this time, the workshops listed above are the only workshop topics available. For other subject test help (e.g., English, history, sciences), please refer to the appropriate academic department for preparation assistance. The student must register for the test on their own.

All MTEL test prep workshops are held in the Sullivan Building on North Campus  (corner of Loring Avenue and Lafayette Street; room numbers are posted on the entrances to the Sullivan Building).

  • Registration deadlines are listed on the registration form. Workshops are held on Saturdays.
  • There is no discount for attending fewer sessions.
  • Cost for MATRICULATED Salem State students (with student ID) and alumni is $125.
  • The cost for non-Salem State students is $175.
  • Pre-registration is required. See registration deadlines for each workshop on the MTEL Workshop Registration Form [PDF].

To register online:

Go to If you have never registered online for a course at Salem State, go to First Time Self-Service for non-degree students and set up your Navigator account. You may then register for your selected course.

To register in person:

Visit the Student Navigation Center on the second floor of the Classroon Building on Central Campus. (Check or credit card.) When registering in person, you will be directed to the payment kiosks by a member of the Navigation Center.
