Master of Social Work (MSW)
In 1987 Salem State College became the first public institution of higher education in Massachusetts to offer an MSW program. The School's faculty and staff are proud of the creation of an MSW program and curriculum that distinguishes itself with regard to both quality and reputation. In the MSW program at Salem State, you will find faculty who are simultaneously committed to teaching, advisement, practice, scholarship, and community service. You will be encouraged and challenged to integrate your understanding of social, economic, cultural, and psychological forces as you learn to work with individuals, families, groups, communities, and organizations.
Our 220 MSW students represent a diverse group of adult learners who are engaged in the study of social work theory and practice in the classroom and in field education placements. The school offers full-time, part-time, and advanced standing study plans.
The Salem State College School of Social Work is fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.
