Congratulations to Deborah Metzel on her forthcoming publication
Adjunct Geography Professor Deborah Metzel has just published a chapter in a forthcoming book: "563 Miles: A Matter of Distance in Long-distance Caring by Siblings of Siblings with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities" in 'Disabled' bodies and minds in society and space, eds. E. Hall, R. Wilton, & V. Chouinard. London: Ashgate Ltd.
This chapter shows how the constitution, constraints, and mediation of space can explain long-distance caregiving. The long-distance spatial relationship between an adult carer sibling and an adult cared-for sibling is studied through qualitative methods. The study shows that space plays a large part in the guilt that adult carer siblings feel, and that, at the same time, long distances don't matter in this particular sibling relationship.
Congratualtions Deb!
