Established in the early l990s, the department’s chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America has intensified the level of its civic engagement. In 2008, the U.S. Census Bureau became one of the chapter’s clients, seeking to raise awareness on campuses nationwide to fill out and send in Census forms when they are distributed in the spring of 2010. Another new chapter client is the American Cancer Society, which sponsors “Making Strides” an annual fundraising walk to support breast cancer research.
Our award-winning chapter representatives have traveled to national conferences to present its ideas on social media strategies, and chapter members have gotten rewarding internships at PR firms and departments and landed jobs in the public relations industry.
PRSSA, an officially sponsored Student Government Association Group & Club, is one of the most appealing opportunities for PR concentrators to learn by doing, network with professionals, and make new and lasting friendships on campus and with their peers at other schools.
PRSSA is the gateway to membership in PRSA, the PR industry’s professional organization, and a pathway to competitiveness in the career of their choice. For information about membership, contact the club’s faculty advisor, Robert Brown, Professor, Communications Department (mailto:email@example.com?subject=PRSSA%20; 978.542.6463).
