Sarah Silva, double major in Spanish and math
Sarah Silva has found a link between the two subjects she loves: Spanish and math. A full-time student in the Spanish program, with a concentration in secondary education and a second major in math, Sarah presented a research paper examining the connections between math and foreign language learning strategies, entitled "La conexión entre las lengas extranjeras y las matemáticas: aprender una lengua extranjera mejora las habilidades matemáticas" at the spring 2008 Undergraduate Research Symposium.
Sarah also established the department's Spanish Club in 2007 and organized several on-campus events for the club, which regularly offers Spanish movie nights, speakers and cultural events for the Salem State community. She is currently teaching in a preschool, but hopes to teach at the high school level after graduation.
