Sarah Orne Jewett

Sarah Orne Jewett (September 3, 1849 – June 24, 1909) was an American novelist and short story writer, best known for her local color works set in or near South Berwick, Maine. This year, the Salem State College English Department is marking the centennial of her death by making Jewett our featured writer of the year. A kick-off celebration will be held on Thursday, September 3rd at 3:30 in MH346 - come join us for birthday cake!
