Shakespeare Project
The Shakespeare Project sponsors graduate courses, workshops, symposia, and other events. Enrich your understanding of Shakespeare through theater, history, music, English, and art history by participating in one or more of the following activities:
One Week Course Institute on "Hamlet"
Monday, July 20 – Friday, July 24, 2009, Salem State College
This institute replaces the 2009 Summer Shakespeare Travel Institute.
Teachers' Workshop with Actors' Shakespeare Project
Monday, Aug. 10 – Friday, Aug. 14, 2009
Teachers - explore Shakespeare's "Midsummer Night's Dream" and breathe life into your teaching. ASP's immediate, vibrant approach to Shakespeare's language will provide you with tools and activities to help students explore "Dream" in Shakespeare's world and in our own times.
Past Activities
The Year-Long Shakespeare Institute from September 2008 - April 2009 allowed participants to spend six Saturdays (one per month) with Shakespeare - such as studying Romeo and Juliet on Valentine's Day! Attendees could attend all six dates or just one or two.
Our "The Tempest": Director Talk and Performance on November 22 allowed participants to have dinner, talk with "The Tempest" director Bill Cunningham, and see a performance of "The Tempest" at the Salem State College Mainstage Theatre.
Participants on our Bard on the Bus trip on November 6 traveled from Salem to Boston to see Actors' Shakespeare Project present "The Merchant of Venice." Participants enjoyed dinner and a lecture by veteran actor-director Richard Edelman.
Our Weekend Teacher Institute from March 28-30 used theater to enhance the teaching of Shakespeare.
