Theresa Gilstrap '10, Mathematics major with a minor in Secondary Education
"I always knew I wanted to go to college, but how to do it with three children? Salem State welcomed me immediately and now I'm on my way to becoming a math teacher. The math department is excellent and Salem State's size is just perfect for me.
I thought staying home with my children would be the most important thing I could do with my life, but one day it just hit me -- I really want to be a high school math teacher. I had always liked math, and I realized that being a teacher would also let me remain involved with raising my children. It seemed like a perfect fit.
After realizing that I wanted to go back to school, I explored my options, including Salem State. The university is well known for educating teachers, and when I toured the campus I immediately liked what I saw. It has been great experience for me and the math department is very good. I've received not only a great education, but some excellent teaching opportunities."
